Acne

It is a myth that Acne is limited to teenagers.  Adult-onset acne is common among women in their twenties and thirties.

The above pictures were taken JUST 6 weeks apart.  The results were achieved using topical Retinoic Acid and weekly skin peels.   Remarkable results without antibiotics or Roaccutaine

How to solve the problem?

In my experience, the best ingredient is Retinoic Acid that is applied topically at night.  The chemical composition is the closest to Roaccutaine.  It is used topically without any of the side effects of taking Roaccutaine orally - no impact on your internal organs.  However,  It reduces oiliness and helps to heal any active pustules on the skin.

 What is the cause?

Acne is mainly caused by excess oil that mixes with dead skin cells on the surface of the skin that forms a plug in the hair folicle.  The body sends white blood cells to "attack" the  plug which causes a pustule.

So, if you ensure optimal functioning of the sebatious gland (i.e. reduce oil) and optimal exfoliation on the surface of the skin you will reduce the break out of pustules.

Treatments Options

The most effective treatment to start with is chemical peels.  It helps to exfoliate the skin as well as heal any active pustules on the skin.

Once the acne is under control and no more break-outs occur, DermaPen treatments are best to heal the scars as well as post-inflammatory dark spots left by pustules.

What to Avoid when having Acne?

  • Do not TOUCH your skin during the day - this spreads the bacteria that is part of the problem and one pustule will be 2 or 3 the next day.

  • Do not pick or squeeze pustules - you are squeezing the germs further into the follicle.

  • Keep your cell phone clean - use antiseptic wipes regularly to clean your phone.  If you wear glasses, the same applies

  • A good cleanser is the foundation to solving the problem.  The ph of the skin is acidic, so ph 7 is way too high.  It will break down the acid mantle that opens the skin to bacteria

  • Exfoliate 1-2 per week. Beta hydroxy acids such as salicylic acid works quite well. DO not exfoliate more.
